F.A.Q.

Question 1

On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue; and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil and pain. These cases are perfectly simple and easy to distinguish. In a free hour, when our power of choice is untrammelled and when nothing prevents our being able to do what we like best, every pleasure is to be welcomed and every pain avoided. But in certain circumstances and owing to the claims of duty or the obligations of business it will frequently occur that pleasures have to be repudiated and annoyances accepted. The wise man therefore always holds in these matters to this principle of selection: he rejects pleasures to secure other greater pleasures, or else he endures pains to avoid worse pains.

Question 2

eligendi optio cumque nihil impedit quo minus id quod maxime placeat facere possimus, omnis voluptas assumenda est, omnis dolor repellendus. Temporibus autem quibusdam et aut officiis debitis aut rerum necessitatibus saepe eveniet ut et voluptates repudiandae sint et molestiae non recusandae. Itaque earum rerum hic tenetur a sapiente delectus, ut aut reiciendis voluptatibus maiores alias consequatur

Question 3

Job Search Parameters

Query string

Use ”*” (wildcard operator) as the search string to return all job posts.
This is exactly the same as just leaving the query string empty.

Surround words with double quotes to do an exact phrase search. This works in “Semantic+Keyword search” and in “Keyword search” mode.

To exclude words in your query explicitly, prefix the word with the - operator. This works in “Semantic+Keyword search” and in “Keyword search” mode.
Example: query string -spring -springboot in “Java and Scala jobs” section will return all job posts without Spring and SpringBoot frameworks.

Search in Country

Use this to see jobs only from a specific country.

The “country” search works across regions. For example: if job post 1 mentions Remote in Argentina and job post 2 is only for candidates in LATAM setting Country to Argentina will show both job posts.

Selecting a country will disable the “Regional search” tabs below (World | Americas | EMEA | APAC) - you cannot filter by both country and region at the same time. To use the “Regional search” again, choose the “all countries” or click the “Reset” button.

Mode (a.k.a. 'Search mode')

There are three search modes:

  • Semantic+Keyword search (default)
  • Semantic search
  • Keyword search

The difference between Semantic search and Keyword search is best explained through examples:

Example 1: You search for “Ethereum”:

  • In Semantic Search mode, the results will include job postings containing the word “Ethereum”, as well as related terms like “cryptocurrency,” “crypto,” and “blockchain.”
  • In Keyword Search mode, the results will only include job postings that contain the exact word “Ethereum” - nothing more.

Example 2: You search for “Windsurf”, referring to an AI-powered code editor:

  • In Semantic Search mode, the results will include job postings with the word “Windsurf”, but also unrelated postings about fleet management software and onboarding - because the system interprets “Windsurf” as something related to shipping.
  • In Keyword Search mode, the results will only include job postings that contain the exact word “Windsurf”.

In Semantic+Keyword search mode, remote4me performs both a semantic search and a keyword search, and then combines the results. Plus, if you select “Best match first” (default), you’ll see the most relevant job posts first.

Hybrid (50% remote) jobs

Use it to see hybrid jobs.

Sort

There are two sort modes:

  • “Best match first” (default)
  • “Latest jobs first”

“Best match first” - This option shows the most relevant job posts first, no matter which search mode you’re using.
“Latest jobs first” - With this, job posts are sorted by their publication date, showing the newest ones first.

You can only select sorting when the query string is NOT empty. When query string is empty - all job posts are sorted “Latest jobs first”, the “Best match first” option is meaningless so it is disabled.

Period

Use it to filter job posts by publishing date.

Reset

Resets all search parameters to default values

Regional search

Lets you search for job posts in your chosen region.
Restrictions: You can only select one top region at a time. This means you cannot search in, let’s say, Latin America and Europe simultaneously. Additionally, you cannot use region search if a country search is active.

World (default)
Ignore location/region restrictions (default) - this is self-explanatory.
Only “worldwide” or “you can be anywhere” jobs - this option finds job posts explicitly stating “worldwide”, “Hires remotely Everywhere”, “Region: Anywhere in the World”, “Work from anywhere on your schedule”, and similar phrases. It also includes jobs with no specific country restrictions. All other job posts are excluded.

Americas
You can pick one or more regions within the Americas:
North America - USA and Canada
Latin America - all countries south of the United States

EMEA
EMEA stands for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
You can pick one or more regions within EMEA:
    West/Central Europe
    East Europe
    Middle East
    Africa

APAC
APAC stands for Asia–Pacific.

Job Listing

Job Listing Overview

Without a query remote4me shows the latest job posts, “latest jobs first”.

When a user enters a query remote4me search the index and returns the relevant job posts. Sort order may be “best match first” or “latest jobs first”

Job Listing Details

Each job post in the listing always contains:
Job title - Self-explanatory.
Publishing date - The date when the job was published on the original job board.

Clicking on + or the job title expands/collapses the job post.
Clicking on the date published opens the job post in a separate browser tab.

All other job post elements are automatically extracted from the job post text and are optional.
Keep in mind: some job posts might only have the company name extracted, while others could have as much detail as the example below, or anything in between. Unfortunately, there isn’t a strict, standardized format for job posts.

A job post may contain a number of optional elements grouped into the left group and the right group.
The following screenshot highlights the left group: Job Listing Screen

Here are the elements in the left group:
Company: The employer.

Compensation: If the original job post includes it (which isn’t very common).

Location: Candidate regions and/or countries (not cities).

Timezones: Shows a “simplified” timezone.
For example, job post details like “Remote within ± 4 hours of Central European Time” are simplified to “Timezones: Europe”.

Hybrid: If it’s a “hybrid” job that requires visiting the office fairly often.

The next screenshot highlights the right group: Job Listing Screen

And here are the elements in the right group:

Technical stack
The job post’s tech stack(s) are automatically detected. In our example, there are two technical stacks: “Frontend” and “Java”.

For all developer jobs: the job post is assigned to the corresponding site section(s) based on its technical stack(s).
For Data/DBMS engineers and ML/AI/(Data)Scientist job posts: these are assigned to the relevant section based on the job title.

Our example job post will be assigned to the “Frontend (JavaScript) jobs” and “Java and Scala jobs” sections.

Programming
Lists the theoretical or software architectural programming concepts mentioned in the job post.

Industry
The following industries are automatically detected in the job post:
Biotech, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, GIS, Multimedia (includes graphics, animation), Gamedev, Fintech (includes trading and crypto).
Our example job post belongs to the “Fintech” industry.

Clouds
The following cloud platforms are automatically detected:
AWS, Azure, Google Cloud.
No cloud platforms were detected in this example.

Infrastructure
This lists everything detected that typically requires DevOps expertise to set up.
This usually includes: operating systems, databases, message queues, container tools, and monitoring tools.

The next screenshot shows the first few lines of an expanded job post:

The job post text is a very close match to the text on the original job board, with slightly simplified formatting.
